Nowadays, eating is often more of a triviality – a quick lunch at work or an unconscious snack between meals. On the other hand, in some situations it also provides us with enjoyable moments, such as having coffee and cake together in good company. Especially when we create nice moments for ourselves in which we enjoy food – whether alone or in company – this does not mean that we have to have a piece of cake every time. Food as a healthy reward

It’s okay to reward yourself with good food from time to time or to give yourself a little highlight at the end of the day or in between. For example, if we are looking forward to a nice dinner with friends in the evening, where we cook our own fresh food, this can lift our mood in advance. A tasty snack that we treat ourselves to as a reward for completing a to-do can also help us to remain productive and “sweeten” the day. Make sure that you prepare tasty and healthy snacks that also keep you feeling full and productive. Nuts, natural yogurt or a vegan alternative with fruit or berries, for example, are excellent options. But you can also enjoy dates with nut butter or homemade, healthy cakes made from nuts, nut butter or dates in between meals to satisfy your sweet palate. Nevertheless, it is also perfectly okay to enjoy an ice cream or similar from time to time as part of a balanced diet, because strict restriction ultimately leads to increased cravings. Therefore, balance is key, which brings us to the next aspect.

Moderation and mindful eating
Try to consciously enjoy your food and take it in with all your senses. What do you smell? What consistency do you perceive? What temperature can you feel on your tongue? And what flavors does your food have? If you eat slowly and mindfully without distractions, you will automatically avoid overeating and become more aware of your feelings of hunger and satiety. So take your time with your meal and enjoy it in peace.

By incorporating a variety of foods into your diet, you not only ensure that you get all the important nutrients, but by trying out new dishes and foods, you also ensure that your meals remain interesting and varied and are therefore enjoyed more. Try out new spices and flavors and integrate cooking into your everyday life as a creative and relaxing activity. This will make you appreciate and enjoy your meal even more.

Enjoy your meals in a beautiful setting, for example by lighting a candle now and again, setting the table in a special way or eating outside in the garden or on the balcony in the sunshine. But beautiful tableware can also turn your meal into a special treat and experience.

A feast for the eyes – colorful recipe: quinoa Salad with Avocado and Lemon Dressing

Ingredients for two portions:

200 g quinoa

1 red bell pepper

1 yellow bell pepper

1 cucumber

1 avocado

100 g cherry tomatoes

1 small red onion

50 g feta cheese

2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

Juice of one lemon

3 tbsp olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

Cook the quinoa:

Rinse the quinoa thoroughly under cold water.

Place in a pan with twice the amount of water, bring to the boil and then reduce the heat.

Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes until the water has been absorbed.

Remove from the heat and leave to cool.

Chop the vegetables:

Cut the bell pepper, cucumber and avocado into small cubes.

Halve the cherry tomatoes and finely chop the red onion.

Assemble the salad:

Place the cooked quinoa in a large bowl.

Add the chopped vegetables, cherry tomatoes, onion and parsley and mix well.

Prepare the dressing:

Mix the lemon juice and olive oil in a small bowl.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Finish the salad:

Pour the dressing over the salad and mix everything together well.

Crumble the feta cheese on top and fold in carefully.

Serve:

Serve the salad on plates and enjoy!
