Good deeds in everyday life

As the saying goes, everything you give will be returned to you. This is directly reflected, for example, in small good deeds and actions in everyday life. Even if our intention is only to help others or to give pleasure to others, the result of our actions is usually that we are happy as well. But why is this the case? Why are these small acts of kindness so good for us, and how can I make them a part of my daily life? We will get to the bottom of these questions below.

Why are good deeds good for us?

Those who help and do good can bring joy to others and are also more satisfied, happier and more balanced themselves. Sometimes this is because when you do a good deed, you are using your own abilities to do something productive and meaningful. This in turn can lead to a happier life and can also create new or deeper meaning.

How can good acts be implemented in everyday life?

Regardless of whether you have a lot or little time at your disposal, good deeds can be implemented to any extent. For those who have a lot of time at their disposal, for example, volunteering in a social institution or association is a good option. For those who have little or no spare time, a small donation to a charity or good cause is a good idea.

What are good deeds?

First of all, it should be noted that good deeds or works of kindness in everyday life are not only related to our fellow human beings, but can also have to do with animals or the environment, for example. Below you will find some examples of good deeds in everyday life.

1. Good actions for animals

  • Take a dog from the animal shelter for a walk.
  • Try to consume less meat and animal products in general. In this way, you are setting an example against conventional livestock farming and promoting your health at the same time.

2. Good actions for fellow human beings

  • Give a small gift to a dear friend or another person of your choice that you know will make them happy. You don’t necessarily need an occasion for this. It could be a flower or simply something you’ve made yourself.
  • Leave a nice message to a colleague, partner, friend, etc. Just write down a few nice words.
  • Surprise someone, for example with something deliciously cooked etc.
  • Volunteer for a good cause. This could also mean spending a few hours playing with the residents of a retirement home.
  • For every new item of clothing you buy, give an old item of clothing to a social organization.
  • Give a homeless person something tasty to eat or another favor.

3. Do good deeds for the environment

  • Try to avoid plastic as much as possible when shopping. Bring a basket or backpack instead.
  • Ever heard of plogging? Take a bin bag with you on your next jog or walk and collect all the garbage you come across along the way.
  • Go to the weekly market from time to time to support local farmers and help protect the environment at the same time.
  • Buy your next item of clothing, furniture or similar second-hand or in second-hand stores.
  • Try to walk or cycle short distances instead of using the car. This not only protects the environment and your wallet, but also improves your fitness.

Perhaps the start of the new year is a good time to resolve to do more good deeds and integrate them into your everyday life. As a little motivational boost, here’s a final quote: “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
