Keep cool: A springtime freshness boost

Spring is finally here: flowers are starting to sprout from the ground, the sun is showing up more and more often, and temperatures are slowly rising too. With our recipe idea, you can create a refreshing spring drink made with healthy ingredients and a guaranteed pick-me-up.

What’s in the Freshness Boost Drink? Our top 3 ingredients

Limes

  • Anti-aging helper
In many tropical countries, limes are considered a valued remedy for skin aging. Certain compounds in lime oil help keep the skin healthy. Limes may also inhibit histamine release and therefore ease allergy symptoms.
  • Protection against infections
The essential oil in limes gives them their intense citrus scent. The component citrate has been shown to inactivate viruses, bacteria, and fungi and may therefore help protect you from infections.
  • Mood booster
Lime oil may also have a positive effect on the autonomic nervous system. A so-called sesquiterpene found in limes can reduce restlessness and anxiety and has an overall mood-lifting effect.

Blackberries

  • Healthy teeth & bones
Thanks to their mix of phosphorus and calcium, blackberries support the building and maintenance of your teeth and bones.
  • Good for your heart
Blackberries contain flavonoids, which can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. They may also help regulate high blood pressure and thin the blood.
  • Gentle “drainage”
Thanks to a combination of fruit acids and around 180 milligrams of potassium, blackberries help support a balanced fluid level in the body and promote the excretion of excess water.
  • Cardiovascular support
Studies suggest that regularly eating berries may be associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and may positively influence certain risk factors (e.g., blood pressure or blood lipids).

Mate tea

  • Trend drink with a guaranteed wake-up effect
Mate is experiencing a real hype right now. Because it contains caffeine, this tart herbal tea is a true pick-me-up. It has a stimulating effect, can boost performance, and supports circulation. That’s why many people see this trendy hot and cold drink as a great alternative to coffee.
  • Your protective shield
The nutritional profile of this herbal tea is impressive too. The many antioxidants in mate tea help protect your body from free radicals.
  • No guilty conscience
More good news: plain mate tea has zero calories, so you can enjoy it without feeling guilty. It also stimulates metabolism and digestion in the body.

Recipe: Lime–Blackberry Lemonade with Mate Tea

Ingredients for a large pitcher:

  • 1 heaped tablespoon mate tea
  • 4 tablespoons agave syrup, maple syrup, or coconut blossom sugar
  • 250 g blackberries
  • 4 organic limes
  • 1 liter cold sparkling mineral water

Preparation:

  1. Bring 500 ml of water to a boil in a pot. Remove the pot from the heat, then stir in the tea and a sweetener of your choice. Let the tea steep for about 5–8 minutes. Meanwhile, wash the blackberries and let them drain. Wash the limes in hot water, let them drain, cut them in half, and then cut them into pieces.
  2. Pour the tea through a fine sieve into a pitcher and let it cool. Once the tea has cooled, add the blackberries and limes to glasses and gently press them a little so they release their full aroma. Then top up the glasses with the tea and sparkling mineral water, and serve.

Our tip: Of course, you can top your spring drink with all your favorite ingredients. How about blueberries, lemon, or rosemary?

enjoy!

With the Freshness Boost Drink, you can bring a little springtime boost into your glass in no time at all: fruity, light, and wonderfully refreshing. Give it a try, mix it up however you like, and raise a glass to spring. Cheers!
