Me-Time: For body and mind

The schedule is full – you rush from work to doctor’s appointments, have appointments with friends and the family wants something from you. But what about you? Taking time for yourself – do you do that? In this article, we would like to give you a few tips on how to take “me-time” – time for yourself – consistently and stick to it. We would also like to give you some inspiration on how to fill the time.

Why is Me-Time so important?

For a balanced life, where you are not completely burned out at the end of the day, it is important that you regularly take time for yourself. Through stimulating or calming activities that are good for you in some way, you can increase your well-being. Often the free time we have available every day is automatically filled with household chores, the Internet or social media. But if you take a little time for yourself every day, you are not only doing something good for your body, but above all for your mental health. You will have more energy for the rest of the day through planned and conscious breaks.

Now we would like to give you a few tips so that you can succeed in your “me-time”.

Tips for spending time with yourself#

  • Find the right time slot: Every appointment calendar looks different. Therefore, we cannot give you any fixed times. The only important thing is that you acquire a fixed ritual. Plan your weekly me-time in advance and mark it on your calendar. Remember: Keep the appointments and don’t postpone them at short notice, meeting you is just as important as meeting friends.
  • Avoid sources of interference: So that you can enjoy your free time in peace, try to switch off all possible sources of interference. The best way to do this is to turn off your mobile phone and move your work documents to another location. Ask your family or roommates not to disturb you for a while. So you can relax and retreat to your room. Alternatively, you can of course go outside. If necessary, make sure to choose a place where you can not get involved in unwanted conversations with acquaintances.
  • Find out what’s good for you: Do you already know what’s good for you? It’s easy to sit in front of the TV after work and switch through the programs. But is that really good for you? For example, if you notice that you’re not really relaxed after watching TV, it may not be the right or right method for you. So it’s important to find out what’s good for you. The best way to do this is to try out different or new things. Here are a few ideas:
    • Walk
    • Read the book
    • Listen to podcast / audiobook
    • Writing a diary
    • Doing sports
    • Cooking or baking
    • Do handicrafts
    • Paint or draw
    • Redecorate your apartment
    • Forest bathing
    • Meditate
    • Do breathing exercises
    • Making music, singing, playing the instrument
    • Listen to music
    • Gardening
    • Take a bath
    • Treat yourself to breaks

Even small breaks in between will do you good, for example between appointments or during your work. A great way to remember breaks and time for yourself at work or on your personal PC is to use relaxing wallpapers.
