Setting up your own home gym has some advantages. Not only do you save yourself the cost of a gym in the long run. You also remain flexible in terms of time and can train when it suits you best. And by the way, you also save yourself the journey. What belongs to the basic equipment and which training equipment bring your body in top shape, we show you in this article. So get into your sports clothes and off you go!
The basic equipment
Before you even start training, you can first dress up. With the right sportswear you are well prepared for your workout and nothing stands in the way of sweating. Good sports shoes are also part of the basic equipment and ensure a firm, secure stand and can protect you from injuries. Of course, your water bottle must not be missed in order to always remain sufficiently hydrated. Last but not least, we also count the fitness mat among the basics as it makes any floor exercises more pleasant. To top it off, your training area can be equipped with a good sound system to survive even the most strenuous exercises with your favorite music. In addition to proper stereo systems you can also simply use a Bluetooth speaker.
Small training devices
If you do not necessarily have a suitable place or even your own sports room at home, many small sport devices that do not require much storage space are already suitable:
- Dumbbells: The variety of exercises is great. For arm, chest, back and shoulder exercises you can train the muscle groups with a variety of variations. The advantage is that you can always reorder weight discs if you lack the challenge.
- Skipping rope: Skipping ropes are only for children? Then you haven’t used them properly yet! Because with high jump rates you can really get your pulse up and thus melt your calories. You can also improve your endurance and coordination.
- Theraband: When training with fitness bands you can also reach deeper, hidden muscles very well. They are available in different resistance levels as well as lengths and can be used in a variety of ways for strength or flexibility training.
- Medicine Ball: These heavy balls come in different weights and sizes. They are very good for strengthening the core and training your strength.
- Kettlebell: With a kettlebell – also called bell dumbbell – you can get everything out of the comfortable and secure grip especially during explosive exercises.
major Purchases
If, on the other hand, you have a little more space and can spread out with your sports equipment, we suggest the following purchases:
- Weight bench with barbell set: For efficient strength training a weight bench allows you to do a variety of different exercises. Especially practical are adjustable weight benches with which you have even more freedom. In addition, the backrest should be long enough for your back and head.
- Power Rack: The Power Rack impresses with its versatile use. Nothing stands in the way of strength training with a barbell. When purchasing make sure that your Power Rack is sturdy and stable so that it is prepared for any weights and emergency drops.
- Pull-up bar: Pull-up bars look so innocent and easy to defeat from a distance. But only until you hang on to it. As an advanced you can train your torso and arms through pull-ups. There are models that are either mounted on the wall or ceiling or simply hung or clamped in the door frame.
For larger training devices, we recommend puzzle-like protective mats that you can flexibly interlock and lay out. This protects your floor sustainably.
By the way, without equipment you can also train the entire body wonderfully with your own body weight. Everyday objects such as bottles, stairs or your towel and blankets can be used for strength, coordination or balance exercises.
